Questions of Faith Update
(February 24, 2012)
See this post by Jeffrey T. Kuhner in the the Washington Times concerning Obama’s “Pseudo Religion.” It says, in part “Obama has declared war on our Judeo-Christian culture. He understands the economic transformation of America cannot take place without a government-imposed social revolution: Smash religion and the family – the key institutions of civil society – and the restraints upon the federal leviathan are removed. The path is laid for a soft authoritarian nanny state. The president acts as if he is hell-bent on eradicating Christianity from the public square.” Though Mr. Kuhner uses no Scripture to back his assertions, I could not have said it better myself.
Questions of Faith for President Obama
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21)
This installment of my blog was to be devoted to the tyranny budding in America. But God has laid something on my heart to share with all of you who know Him through the Person of Jesus Christ. The next installment will begin to deal with that pressing issue.
On November 4 2008, we Christians helped put a man in the White House who claims to be a Christian. By that statement he claims to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. To all of us that have that relationship, it means that anyone who claims to be Christian also testifies that it is God himself who is moving him to do what he does through the Holy Spirit living in him.
Before proceeding, I acknowledge that it is certainly not for me, or anyone else, to judge the heart of our President, but only God alone can know the truth of these claims. But God does warn us that false prophets will come and that we will know them by the fruit they bear. And Jesus clearly calls us to carefully evaluate their fruit so that we can separate the ferocious wolves from the rest. So I write this blog for other children of God to examine our president by his own actions and words to see for themselves through their testing spirit whether our president is who he claims to be. For the Spirit tells us that if we know the Lord we will do the righteous things He did.
With these cautions in mind, I have some questions for our President.
Mr. President, you have recently established a rule that religious institutions must provide contraceptive services free of charge to their employees. Your justification is that it enhances women’s health services. Setting aside that contraceptive devices of all kinds actually endanger women’s health, it is well known, that these contraceptive services include providing the morning after pill which kills a live fetus, the most innocent of human beings. As Christian, Mr. President, you must know that killing an innocent human being is detestable to the God you worship. You have made it very clear that you also promote abortion on demand. How, then is promoting the killing of the innocent consistent with your faith? Are you not declaring that if Jesus Himself were to come back to us, He would approve of abortion on demand?
To complete your establishment as President, you had to take an oath before God “to the best of [your] ability, [to] preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Implicit in that oath is a vow to uphold and defend the laws of the United States. As a Christian you must know that the God you worship takes our vows very seriously. But your actions as President have called into question your fealty to that oath.
For example, regarding the contraceptive order, how is trampling the tenets of the very religious faith you hold by clearly violating the First Amendment to the Constitution— which guarantees that government will not interfere with religious freedom—consistent with your oath? How is refusing to defend a court challenge to the “Defense of Marriage Act” upholding your oath?
You have stated publicly that you wish you could “go it alone” to pass laws, presumably by ignoring the powers vested in the Congress of the United States by that same Constitution you have sworn to uphold. You have appointed a cadre of czars who are to carry out your executive directions, none of whom have been approved by the Congress. How is this consistent with your oath of office? How is violating your oath consistent with your faith?
During your campaign you spoke words consistent with your faith when you promised to be a uniter, not a divider. But how is singling out one class of people, millionaires and billionaires for not paying enough taxes, as being worthy of our hatred. (Incidentally, for the 2009 tax year, the top 1% of all tax payers (with adjusted gross income of $344,000 or greater) , presumably the millionaires and billionaires you hate, pay over 36% of all income taxes, while the bottom 50% of the people pay only 2.25% of taxes. ) As you well know, Christians are to be men of peace. As a man of faith you must know that God detests those who causes conflict within the community. This conflict has erupted throughout the United States. The Occupy Wall Street movement, which you’ve publicly supported, is one example of that. After three years of your presidency, it is clear that this nation is more divided than ever. Would you have us believe that your divisive rhetoric had nothing to do with this?
Like most politicians, websites have been devoted to your perceived lack of honesty and forthrightness with the American people. But my personal perception is that this lack of honesty has been carried to new heights by your administration. For example, in an interview with Bill O’Reilly in December of 2010 Mr. O’Reilly asked if you wanted to redistribute income. You said “No”. But in your campaign you stated to Joe the Plumber that his taxes would rise. You said the reason was to make those who made more pay more taxes and to give a cut to everyone else. Then you stated flat out that “… I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.” How is this consistent with not wanting to redistribute income? Again, I ask, how does being dishonest with the American people comport with your faith in Jesus Christ? Should we not expect more of someone who knows the Lord Jesus Christ than to be excoriated as a liar in the public domain?
So, Mr. President, how do you plan to answer the Judge of all Creation when He asks you how you’ve lived out your faith? Do you really expect us to believe that you are doing these things by the hand of God working through you?
To my brothers and sisters in Christ: according to some accounts as many as 40% of the evangelical community voted for Mr. Obama in 2008. My question to you is, what has the church done, electing this man to be President of the United States?
More about the tyranny that’s forming in America in my next installment.
